Daily Oral Care and Cavity Prevention
Home care aims to control plaque and reduce the conditions that favour decay and gum disease. It lowers risk, but does not guarantee that you will never need treatment.

Brush and clean between teeth

Brush twice daily with fluoride toothpaste and a soft brush. Clean between teeth daily using a suitable method; ask for help around bridges or appliances. Replace worn brushes. Do not scrub harder to compensate for missed areas.

Reduce repeated sugar exposure

Consider how often sugary snacks and drinks contact the teeth, not only the amount. Discuss dry mouth and medicines with the team. Existing holes and tooth pain need assessment, not just a stricter cleaning routine.

Choose extra products individually

Fluoride treatments, sealants or rinses may suit particular needs. A rinse does not replace brushing or interdental cleaning. Children need age-appropriate products and supervision; do not assume an adult rinse is suitable for a child.

Review what works

Bring your brush or describe your tools at a visit. Ask which areas remain difficult and when to reassess. Preventing cavities is a continuing plan, different from filling a cavity that already exists.
