Dental Restoration Options: Repairing and Replacing Teeth
Repairing a damaged tooth and replacing a missing tooth are different decisions. An examination checks what can be preserved before a restoration is selected.

Bonding, fillings and partial coverage

Composite bonding can repair a suitable small chip or local defect. Fillings restore cavities; inlays or onlays may suit larger defects. The choice depends on remaining tooth tissue, decay, bite and the ability to isolate the area.

Crowns and pulp health

A crown covers a weakened tooth when appropriate. It does not treat an infected pulp by itself. The dentist assesses whether pulp or root canal treatment is needed and whether the tooth is restorable; not every crack means extraction.

Replacing missing teeth

Options include bridges, implants and removable dentures. A bridge relies on suitable supports; an implant involves surgery and healing. Replacing one tooth differs from full-arch rehabilitation. No option prevents all future bone loss or lasts forever without maintenance.

Compare the whole plan

Ask about alternatives, stages, risks, cleaning, likely repairs and total cost. Recovery varies by procedure and individual health. Confirm the services and appointment arrangements with the office you select.
