Replacing One Missing Tooth: Comparing the Options
One missing tooth does not call for the same treatment as a missing full arch. The main options include an implant-supported crown, a bridge and a removable partial denture. Choosing among them starts with an examination of the gap, neighbouring teeth and supporting tissues.

An implant and crown

An implant is placed in bone to support a crown without using neighbouring teeth as bridge abutments. It involves surgery, sufficient bone and healing; additional treatment may be needed first. Implant and crown need continuing cleaning and maintenance, and neither is guaranteed for life.

A fixed bridge

A conventional bridge attaches a replacement tooth to supporting teeth. Those teeth usually need preparation and must have a suitable prognosis. Selected cases may suit a resin-bonded bridge with different preparation requirements. Ask how each design affects healthy tooth tissue and future repairs.

A removable partial denture

A removable appliance can replace the gap without implant surgery and may be useful during treatment or as a longer-term choice. Comfort, stability, appearance and cleaning differ from fixed options. It needs assessment and adjustment rather than a one-size-fits-all purchase.

Questions for the consultation

Discuss the condition of adjacent teeth, bone and gums, bite, medical history, treatment stages, maintenance and total cost. Ask whether a temporary replacement or observation is reasonable and what leaving the space could mean in your case. This comparison is not a recommendation for All-on-4 or full-arch surgery.
