Prevention, restorative care and elective cosmetic care have different purposes. A general dental practice assesses your needs and may provide treatment or arrange referral; it should not be assumed to offer every procedure for every age.
Preventive care
Examinations, appropriate cleaning, home-care education and selected fluoride or sealants help manage risk. They do not replace treatment for an existing cavity or periodontitis. Imaging and review intervals are individual.
Restorative and pulp treatment
Fillings, crowns, bridges, dentures and implants address different damage or missing teeth. Pulp or root canal treatment depends on diagnosis and restorability, not pain alone. Children’s primary teeth need a distinct approach.
Orthodontic and cosmetic choices
Aligners, braces, whitening, bonding and veneers have different indications and limitations. Whitening does not change the colour of existing restorations; appliances need maintenance. Disease control and a suitable bite come before elective changes.
Symptoms and appointments
Pain, swelling or a broken tooth may need earlier assessment. Confirm availability and services with the selected office; there is no implied 24-hour service. Ask about alternatives, referral, risks and follow-up before agreeing to treatment.
